Erik Ebeling was born in Overland Park, Kansas, in 1982. He studied at the Lorenzo de Medici Institute of Art in Florence, Italy, and graduated in 2005 from Drake University, where he received a BFA in graphic design with a concentration in painting. He has a diverse artistic background, with experience in graphic design, painting, illustration, and sculpture. His work can be seen at Eva Reynold's Fine Arts Inc., in Kansas City.
Artist Statement
In my work, I attempt to offer images that are aesthetically attractive and visually striking, but also obscured by something nonspecific, something that seems transitional and nebulous. This uncertainty impedes the viewers' natural tendency to quickly define, categorize, and ultimately dismiss what they see, and instead elicits a response, an intellectual interaction with the image and the mood it evokes. This response to visual information is a personal thing, a reflexive thing, and through it the viewer can contemplate their personal relationship with the work.
